Find the clip
On Watch, Reels, or a Videos tab, TrueReel collects video IDs from the page and from Facebook’s own GraphQL.
Chrome extension · sibling to TrueFrame
Open a Watch video, a Reel, or a page’s Videos tab. Scan once. Save the highest-quality MP4 Facebook still serves — not the compressed player preview.
Unpacked Manifest V3 · videos you can already play · nothing leaves the browser
In-player Facebook video is a delivery stream. The original progressive MP4 is often still on fbcdn — signed, HD, one request away if you already have the clip open.
How it works
On Watch, Reels, or a Videos tab, TrueReel collects video IDs from the page and from Facebook’s own GraphQL.
Permalink harvest keeps playable_url_quality_hd / browser_native_hd_url over the SD player source.
Chrome writes MP4s to Downloads/TrueReel/. One clip or a whole videos tab.
Try it here
Facebook cannot run in this preview. Scan the sample, then download a zip of the HD files. On Chrome, TrueReel does this to a live video tab.
Install
TrueReel is a separate extension from TrueFrame so each listing stays single-purpose.
Chrome → Extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked → the unzipped TrueReel folder.
Unzip so you can see manifest.json.
Enable Developer mode, then select the TrueReel folder.
Watch, Reel, or a page Videos tab. Private clips stay private.
Click TrueReel → Scan videos → Download originals.
No. It only reads videos already visible in your browser session. If you cannot play the clip, TrueReel cannot either.
TrueReel prefers Facebook’s progressive MP4 (HD native / playable_url_quality_hd). Adaptive DASH streams are skipped so you get a real file, not a playlist.
A sibling. TrueFrame is photos. TrueReel is video. Separate Chrome listing, same privacy model: nothing uploads.
Video downloaders get a harder review than photo tools. The package is store-shaped. Approval is Google’s. Sideload works regardless.
TrueReel is not affiliated with Meta. Use it to archive videos you have the right to keep.
